不想被“歧视” 对国际生友好的美国高校大盘点

越来越多的学生和家长意识到,排名并不能成为我们选校的唯一标准,很多比较笼统的排名会相对看重学校对于本地学生的经济支持、毕业率、就业率等指标,却忽略了针对国际学生所提供的资源。因此,作为国外申请者的我们就更需要小心,仔细甄别各个排名的参考度到底有多大了。

不少小伙伴都开始担忧自己未来的留学生活,学校中会不会存在歧视,如果发生在自己身上有没有可以寻求帮助的组织。U.S.News 曾以国际生需求角度,既考虑学术水平,也参考文化、生活,制作出一版最佳国际生大学。

这份资料不仅总结了对国际学生提供完善支持的院校list,同时还详细解读了榜单背后的考量因素,这些因素也是国际生科学择校需要关注的方面。由于国内外院校环境的不同,很多东西还真是容易被咱们中国同学忽略呢,快一起来看下吧!


评选指标

  1. 国际生6年毕业率高于平均水平。
  2. 大一国际新生保留率高于平均水平。
  3. 学校提供ESL或其他“英语为第二语言”课程作为国际生的特殊服务。
  4. 学校里有国际学生组织。
  5. 学校为国际学生提供Need-based或其他类型经济援助。
  6. 向国际生提供:英语实验室;国际学生中心;特约辅导员;假期住宿;餐厅“节日服务”;非英语招生网站;语言成绩豁免政策;条件录取等11项服务。

国际生的毕业率直接反应出学生是否能顺利完成学业。由于美国的大学宽进严出,入读后是否能能达到学校要求,完成学业,还真是个未知数。而由于文化、语言等一系列的冲击,身在异国他乡的同学们面临的挑战就更大了。这一项的评判标准和其他五项也相互关联,若能得到其他的支持,比如学校提供经济援助,为国际生开设语言中心等,那国际生顺利毕业也会相应地得到保障。

来自US News的统计数据表明,有三分之一的大一新生选择辍学。这其中原因有:家庭因素,个人不堪孤独,学习困难和经济原因。这个数据不是针对国际学生,但这些原因都是可能造成国际生辍学的主要因素。ESL可以帮助国际学生提高英文水平,学生组织也可为学生紧张的学习之余提供有益身心的活动,结交更多朋友,缓解思乡之苦。而针对国际生提供经济支持,则可大大缓解学生和家庭的压力。

国际生到美国留学,不再单单是学习这么简单,会面临各种各样的生活困难。大到找住宿,小到是否有中餐提供,衣食住行皆是影响生活质量和学习情况的因素。若国际学生在择校时可以在大的方向中注意留意这些细节,一定可以选择到对国际生友好的学校。
