• Teach in China

Bringing Western Education to Eastern Schools

What We Do

Since 2010, WholeRen Education Group has created and promoted an array of international programs between China and the U.S. by bringing expanded learning and cultural experiences to schools, students, and teachers. Our Teach in China program gives western educators the opportunity to engage in international education along two tracks: the school administration track (e.g., as a school principal or academic director) and the teaching track (e.g, in subject areas or as an ESL teacher). These options are for educators who would like to work at a school in China and typically are contracted for an academic year.

We partner with institutions in China that seek to bring in progressive and creative administrators, as well as teachers, from the United States to oversee the development of school programs in China. WholeRen collaborates with schools and candidates to understand their needs and philosophies in order to help to match candidates to the most suitable positions abroad and ensure success for both parties.

Who We Assist

  • Seasoned School Administrators (e.g., Principals, Academic Directors, Counselors)
  • Educators seeking to contribute to international education in China
  • Culturally competent professionals with experience in delivering educational experiences for primary and secondary schools
  • Independent, creative educators who have developed school programs within the United States, and can bring international education to China
  • Innovative, organized school leaders who can advance classroom experiences and support teachers in developing student academic experiences

Requirements

Given the number of different positions available across a variety of schools, requirements are largely position-specific. However, There are several general requirements sought by nearly all positions:

2+ Years of Experience

In order to be granted a Chinese working visa, would-be educators must have at least two years of experience in their field after having obtained their degree, or to have obtained a masters degree. More demanding positions may look for more extensive history from applicants.

Adaptability and Flexibility

Working at a school in another country means not only will the culture there likely be different from what you are accustomed to, but the academic culture may be different as well. Therefore, it is crucial that would-be international educators have a certain degree of flexibility and are able to adapt to changes in their environment.

Fluency in English

Being fluent in English ensures that you can communicate easily with other English speakers as well as contribute to the western educational culture that many schools are trying to create.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do I need to know Chinese?

Not a requirement – many international schools use English as the primary language of instruction and typically have administrative assistants and teachers available to help with any translation needs. There are also many expatriates, English speakers, and those looking to practice English in the larger cities who can help you navigate.

  • Is this for English teachers?

No – in fact, English teachers represent only a small subset of the educators we work with. Because we partner with schools that specifically have international curriculums, we seek teachers that will deliver innovative teaching methodology in their subject areas of expertise using the English language.  Additionally, we also seek experienced school administrators looking to expand their professional careers abroad.

  • What does it cost?

Nothing – we receive commission from the school’s that we work with for finding talented educators. In turn, we do all we can to support you and smooth along your transition at no cost to you.

  • What if I have more questions?

Call or email us – we have bilingual representatives standing by in the U.S. and in China ready to answer any questions you may have, as well as help you out if something comes up that you cannot manage on your own.
